    Common Human Thoughts

Sam Rotengold is the inescapably American son of Jewish refugees who fled Russia for China, then China for America, dooming him to a never-ending search for a place to belong—and a low-key suspicion of anyone who’ll have him. He writes genre dramas pulled from the margins of society and history, tackling contemporary issues by sneaking under the radar with dark comedy, high-stakes action, and grounded characters just trying to make the most of life’s indignities.

Recent work includes PRINCE OF SORROWS, an animated feature written for live orchestra, set to premiere in 2026; CONVERSO, a bounty-hunter procedural (and highest rated TV Pilot on The Black List in 2023); and NEWTS!, a sci-fi audio drama released by PRX and nominated for Best Fiction Podcast at the AMBIES. He is currently writing a 70s spy-thriller feature about faith, survival, and identity for Saltire Entertainment.

Alongside his writing, Sam is a passionate arts educator and world-traveling puppeteer supported by the Jim Henson Foundation.
